Overview - ACLE - China's Leading Leather Event
Buoyant & Optimistic Fair Attracts Close to 15,000 Buyers
|
|
The Chinese leather industry continues to battle against the global slowdown, registering less severe declines and showing its first signs or recovery since last year, according to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA). This was confirmed by participants at the 2009 All China International Leather Exhibition (ACLE): both exhibitors and visitors alike reported positive feedback on the 3-day event.
ACLE, held alongside Moda Shanghai and China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) - all organised jointly by APLF Ltd and CLIA – attracted over 14,354 buyers.

While the Chinese government’s stimulus plan are helping the industry’s immediate future, progress in new technology is helping to ensure the industry’s longer-term stability. As demonstrated on several exhibitors’ booths at the fair, both domestic and international manufacturers are playing a prominent role in the move towards alternative chemicals and technologies leading to more environmental friendly processes and better work conditions.
Industry players are well aware of all the issues that the leather sector is facing and while admittedly not all matters related to the economic crisis and to the environment have been solved, the general mood is nonetheless rather optimistic.

Proof that an economic crisis is not necessarily a deterrent and can even be an incentive, Indian company Allanasons Ltd started a new venture eight months ago, when the crisis was at its peak. A major supplier of meat products and of processed food, Allanasons now provides leather from its own livestock. 99 per cent of the company’s production is sold to Indian tanners but targets are to start to export and to start the manufacturing of shoes within the next two to three years.

"The ACLE is the only platform available to learn about the market and to meet potential customers", said Allanasons' General Manager, Rafique Nadaf.
